10/02/06 - "Emphasis on Environment and Architecture" Article

Blue Spring Reserve, a subsidiary of LandQuest Group, offers a unique concept in Central Florida real estate.  Blue Spring Reserve incorporates Coastal Country and Florida Vernacular architecture sculpted in harmony with a historic nature preserve.  Blue Spring Reserve is located on U.S. Highway 19 near U.S. Highway 27 and the Florida Turnpike, in Clermont.  It is a residential community of 63 estate lots.  The enclave boasts generous amounts of shaded area, walking, jogging, and fitness trails, nature observation points and towers, boardwalks, piers, canoe and kayaking facilities, and winding roads highlighted by wooden bridges.  Director of Communication, Terese Holt, says that Blue Spring Reserve is “Where Mother Nature Lives.”

Developer and LandQuest President, Max Minhas is a visionary in environmentally conscious communities.  “We take great care to preserve the environment and create unique living areas.  Our dedication creates an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly, and dignified community.”  The entire LandQuest development team echoes his vision.  “Our quality of life is further enhanced when we can enjoy nature,” states Project Manager Jan Otero.

Blue Spring Reserve is nestled in an historically significant area.  Timacuan natives occupied this area in the 1400’s.  In 1513, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto fought the Timacuan, eventually forcing the natives from the land.  De Soto’s presence was short-lived, as the Seminole people resettled the area in an expansion from northern Florida and Southern Georgia.  In 1974, famed wildlife enthusiast Marlin Perkins, purchased hundreds of acres that are now Blue Spring Reserve.  The creator of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom envisioned a wildlife theme park.  Perkins brought dozens of exotic animals to the area.  It was not uncommon to see giraffe heads peeking above the treetops or hippos playing in the marshes.  Archeologists and paleontologists were excited when a worker discovered what appeared to be a dinosaur skeleton.  Later, experts determined the skeleton was a giraffe.  However, this led to renaming the area of discovery, “Skeleton Island.”

Blue Spring Reserve features architectural designs from the Coastal Country and Florida Vernacular styles.  These styles are ideally suited to a warm, sub-tropical climate.  Builders will orient the homes to encourage prevailing breezes to create natural circulation throughout the house.  Traditional designs include a symmetrical style with generous wrap-around porches. Additional features are broad overhangs for cooling shade, rectangular columns with unadorned railings, simple rectangular shapes, steep roofs with gables and dormers, double-hung vertical windows and above-grade elevations.  These designs are prominently featured in coastal Georgia and South Carolina.  Charleston and Savannah inspired the architecture for Blue Spring Reserve.

This development is an interesting combination of traditional architecture blending seamlessly into an intriguing nature preserve.  Blue Spring Reserve represents a continuing branding initiative of LandQuest Group.  Previously, LandQuest successfully developed another Blue Spring Community, Blue Spring Lake, offering homes designed in an idyllic natural setting.
